Box 229 <br /> Boulder, Colorado 80306 <br /> Re: Deepe Farm Pit <br /> Our File No. 81-302 <br /> Dear Mr. Hart: <br /> I have reviewed the above application for adequacy and have the following <br /> questions, comments, and suggestions which are intended to aid you in <br /> bringing this application into full compliance with the law and to the <br /> satisfaction of the Mined Land Reclamation Board. Please address each of <br /> the following items in detail. <br /> 1. Are the five steps of _general mining procedures (as described in <br /> Exhibit B) to be the actual procedures used at the Deepe Farm Pit? <br /> 2. Please delineate the proposed locations of the deposit and topsoil <br /> stockpiles on Exhibit C. <br /> If topsoil stockpiles will remain undisturbed for more than one growing <br /> season, a suitable cover of vegetation should be established on the stock- <br /> piles to avoid deterioration of the topsoil prior to utilization during <br /> reclamation. <br /> In consideration of our recent inspection of the Turnpike pit, it <br /> is advisable to strategically locate deposit stockpiles along the western <br /> portion of a given stage of mining to reduce noise and visual effects of the <br /> excavation. Additionally, consideration should be given to the proposed <br /> height and shape of the stockpiles in order to minimize particle blowing <br /> and "unsightliness", and to improve stability of the stockpiles for general <br /> public safety. <br /> 3. The Division recommends that topsoil and vegetation removal occur in <br /> defined increments immediately in advance of mining in a given phase. This <br /> would tend to minimize wind and water erosion as mining progresses over the <br /> site. Additionally, reclamation should follow in defined increments as soon <br /> as possible following mining in a given Phase. The application, as submitted, <br />
