On April 21 - 22, I removed two of the water bars and
reduced the depth and their adjoining berms on all of the water bars except the one major
water bar located at the steepest road section where the road up to the refuse pile azea
branches off from the main road.
Years of practice have proven water bars very effective in reducing the rutting
and erosion of the road surfaces - -the steeper the road gradient, the more beneficial the
water bazs are. The mine roads aze gated and closed to public traffic - -the use intent is
for light use and should not be a hard ship on an occasional vehicle.
As you know, the mine roads leading to the Newlin Creek pile footprint and the
South Fan area have utilized the use of water bars for several years. If the Division does
not agree with this practice for some reason, please advise.
Sincerely, - --° -- - - - - -- - -- - ----° °- - --
eorge .Patterson
Gen ine Manager
