Empire Eagle Mine Vegetation Final Bond Release Monitoring 2005-2006
u =sample mean for the given vegetation parameter
t =The t-table value for a single tailed t-test with (n-1) degrees of freedom
Vegetation parameter sample populations will satisfy both minimum size
requirements and population adequacy, or meet maximum sample population
requirements. The minimum parameter population size will be 15 samples, the
maximum sample size will be 40 samples, at which point the central limit theorem
will be applied and the population sample mean will be considered representative
of an adequate population.
STATISTICAL TESTING: FINAL VEGETATION BOND RELEASE
' Approved direct comparisons or appropriate statistical testing will be performed
as described in the Division of Minerals and Geology's Guideline Regarding
' Selected Coal Mine Bond Release Issues, April 18, 1995 ("Bond Release
Guideline°). When the reclaimed area parameter sample mean is equal to or
'' greater than 90% of the reference area sample mean (or weighted mean}, or
90°k of the approved technical standard, reclaimed vegetation will be considered
' successful for that parameter. In order to make a direct comparison, the sample
size(s) must meet population adequacy requirements. Statistical testing for
' population adequacy will be performed as described in the Bond Release
Guideline.
' If the parameter sample mean for the reclaimed area is less than 90°~ of the
standard, statistical testing may be used to demonstrate that the difference is not
' statistically significant. When this occurs, appropriate statistical tests may be
performed for each monitored vegetation parameter and comparison to its
' release standard values. Hypothesis testing as described in the Bond Release
Guideline is the first option that may be used when the reclaimed area is less
' than 90% of the standard. The second option that may be used is the one-
_ sample t-test as described in the Bond Release Guideline.
Habitat Management, Inc. 14 6/7!2006
