The <br />mine has a rnluurful history and was one <br />ul the richest in Gdundo. <br />Location and History <br />The Camp Bird Afine a located G miles <br />south of Ourav, in south-west Colorado. <br />in the San Juan Mountains. The mill and <br />uf(ice (acilitirs are at an elevation of <br />IOA00 (rrt above sea Ircrl. bm the mine <br />workings extend up ro almost IiAUp <br />feet. The San Juan mining district lies <br />wi[hin [he Colorado Minrnl Beh and the <br />Trrtiars' San Juan \blcanic Field, and has <br />produced approximately G million ounces <br />u( gold together with silver and base <br />metals from Grins and breccia pipes. <br />Since its discocrrv by Thomas u'alsh in <br />IR)G, the Camp Bird Aline has produced <br />approximately L5 milBun ounces of gold <br />at an average grade u( approximately I <br />ounce per ton. <br />Thr mine operated un an intermittent <br />basis until 196q when a 500 ton per day <br />base meta! mill was constructed.
