III. Cultural and Historic Resources
The revision will not result in any adverse effects to any publicly
owned park or place listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The
operation is in compliance.
IV. Geology, V. Hydrologic Balance, VI. Alluvial Valley Floors, VII Water
Ri hts and Re lacement, VIII Probable Hydrologic Consequences of Mining
an Cumulative ydrologic Impact Study
The original CWI application included baseline hydrologic information
and a discussion of impacts which extended to the lands included in this
revision. The additional lands are located near a ridge top and do not
contain any streams, regional aquifers, springs, seeps, ponds or adjudicated
water rights. No changes in our Findings of Compliance, PHC, CHIS, or AVF
determination is required. The operation is in compliance.
IX. Climatological Information and Air Resources, X. Topsoil, XI.
Vegetation, XII. Fish and Wildlife, XIII. Prime Farmland
No surface facilities are proposed for this revision. The findings of
compliance for the above sections did not change.
XIV. Operations Description
CWI estimates that 190,000 tons of coal will be extracted initially
from the proposed area. Mining will proceed both by long-life entry
development and room and pillar methods using continuous mining machines. The
North Intakes will be driven north off the 8N-lE Submain and will parallel the
adjacent D-036955 lease line. Approximately 1400 ft. of North Intakes
development will occur within the proposed area. The North Intakes will be
left open to be connected with the East Mains next year. Additionally, the 4
North Panel will be driven in a northeast direction off the 8N-lE Submain,
terminating at the 400 ft. East Mains barrier. Approximately 650 ft. of the 4
North will be developed and then retreat mined within the proposed area. A
200 ft. barrier pillar will be left intact to protect the North Intakes.
CWI will produce approximately 1.3 to 1.5 million tons of coal per year
depending on the productivity rate of its existing complement of workers. All
other aspects of the mine operation will be as presented in the Orchard Valley
Mine Permit C-038-83. No new surface facilities are proposed under this
revision. The operation is in compliance with the requirements of this
section.
XV. Mine Facilities, XVI. Explosives, XVII. Backfilling and Grading,
XVIII.Coal Processin Waste, XIX. Bonding, XX. Sealing of Drilled Holes and
Undergroun Openings
The revision did not affect any of the above categories of Findings.
XXI. Subsidence
An additional 42.5 acres could be potentially subsided with this
revision. The operator's subsidence discussion and predictions in the
original application are applicable to this area. No structures or other
