car~sfi uictnon car~~any
March 30, 1992
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Attention: Harry Posey, Ph. D.
Dept. of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Menzer Quarry
Inspection Report
Dear Harry:
~l'
~~CEllil~~.~
~iAY 0 5 1991
Mined i.and
Reclamation ,p;,,;~;,~n
This letter is sent in response to your Reclamation Inspection of Menzer Quarry
on 1-29-92, and your follow-up report. Let me address each Problem/PCSSible
Violation as you indicated on page 3 of 4 and 4 of 4 in your report.
1. Annual Report map appears to show incorrect permit boundary. We checked
with your corporate headquarters, and you are correct. We submitted Cooley's
Annual Report map without carefully reviewing it for correctness.
2. Several new equipment items and concrete walled conveyor aze not in the
mining plan. The mining equipment that we are using coincides with the
approach that was originally submitted in 1976. We have not introduced
more equipment, but replaced original equipment with similar kind and grade.
This equipment, including conveyors, is only temporary in nature, and it
will be removed upon completion of all mining. Right now we are moving
our conveyor system closer to the face of our mining operation to cut down
on the amount of loader work. Below is an itemization of costs associated
with the removal of the walled conveyor housing.
a. Walled conveyor housing costs:
mobile crane @ S90/hr...6 hr. S 540.00
trenching @ $75.00/hr...8 hr. 600.00
966 loader @ S65/hr...4 hr. 260.00
labor @ $24/hr...160 hr. 3,200.00
$4,600.00
3. Part of the crusher fines are being transported offsite. We are f~~llowing
the same mining plan as was originally submitted in 1976. This pl.3n indicated
15.6 acres of quarry floors and 9.66 acres of benches. With placement
of 1'0" of crusher fines to act as a growth medium for new vegetation,
we estimate that 1,613.3 cy per acre, or 40,753 cy total, will be ~zecessary
to provide coverage. We shall designate a 50,000 cy Stockpile res~arved
2635 Delta Drive • Colorado Springs, CO 80910 • (719) 392-4207
AN EOUAI OPPO41U NIfY EMPLOYER
