Box 98
Loma, CO 80202
RE: Munger Reclamation
Permit C-1981-020
Request for Revision
Dear Mr. Isaacs:
During my inspections of McClane Canyon and Munger Canyon Mines on December 21,
we discussed the fact that CAM Mining LLC (CAM} is planning to undertake
reclamation of the Munger Canyon Mine, including portal bench area, access road, and
coal waste disposal site during 2007. I mentioned that, when reclamation of long term
facility areas is initiated earlier than planned, there are usually some aspects of the
reclamation plan that need to be amended prior to implementation. One issue we
discussed is that, if the coal waste disposal area at Munger is to be closed and reclaimed,
the McClane permit will need to be revised to specify an acceptable alternative site for
disposal of coaly sediment and other coal or rock waste occasionally generated from
pond and ditch cleanout and other sources. A related issue is that, because the Munger
waste disposal site would be closed up much sooner than anticipated, with only a smaIl
fraction of the planned material volume placed in the disposal, the approved disposal pile
design set forth in the Munger reclamation plan will need to be revised to reflect the
actual volume of material.
Subsequent to our discussion, I have given some additional thought to this matter, and I
have reviewed the approved Munger permit application package and related permitting
documents. Based on the review, I have identified a number of additional items that will
or may need to be revised to accommodate the expedited reclamation.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines
