Dept. of Natural Resource
This letter is being written concerning an application by Powderhorn Coal Com-
pany, P. 0. Box 1430, Palisade, Colorado 81526, for a Permit Revision Applica_
tion for South Fan Location, Case No. C-041-81. The exact location of the ven-
tilation fan is contained in information submitted to you on March 18, 1983, by
Powderhorn Coal Company.
Mr. Bruno A. Redolfi, Chief Engineer for Powderhorn Coal Company, met with two
representatives of the Rapid Creek community, and explained the installation pro-
cedures and location of the proposed fan. It appears from the explanation by
Mr. Redolfi that Powderhorn Coal Company is endeavoring to take necessary precau-
tions to protect the community from offensive noise from the fan. We understand
the necessity of miners having adequate ventilation and have no objections to the
fan being installed as proposed, provided it has no adverse effect on the Ra~~id
Creek residents.
We, the undersigned residents and property owners of Rapid Creek, request the
following stipulations be made a part of any revised permit issued to the Vowder-
horn Coal Company:
1. Adequate additional equipment necessary for noise elimination during its
operation shall be installed at the time mine ventilating equipment is originally
installed.
2. Operation of the ventilation fan shall not interfere with television or
radio signals.
3. Adequate watering down of soil will be accomplished during excavation to
eliminate dust.
We have no objections to the proposed ventilating fan installation, provided the
above stipulations are included in the revised permit. Your consideration of this
request is appreciated.
Any questions concerning this letter may be directed to Henry C. Higgins, Route 2,
838 Rapid Creek Road, Palisade, Colorado, 81526.
