Box ] 009
Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81602
RE: Updated Reclamation Plan -Eagle Gypsum Mine
Introduction
RECEIVED
DEC 2 1 2001
OiYi6lon of Minerals and Gaolapy
As requested by the BLM Glenwood Springs Resource Area Office, an update of
the Reclamation Plan for the Eagle Gypsum Mine "Old Mine Area" is being submitted.
The Old Mine Area designation pertains to previous mining operations located west of
Eagle County Road #51. Operations in this area were discontinued in 1990 and ongoing
reclamation has occurred since then.
This update represents no essential change in the Reclamation Plan submitted for
the area in the mid 1980's. There have been no modifications in the affected acreage
submitted with the original plan. Personnel changes at BLM and the Eagle Gypsum Mine
since that time have probably resulted in some element of "falling through the cracks".
With this factor in mind, an update such as this it is intended to serve as clarification for
personnel currently involved with the operation.
Several acres of former mine operations land have already been reclaimed at the
"Old Mine" since 1990. Reclamation accomplishments include re-grading and vegetation
of exploration drill sites, roads and storage areas. In particular, successful reclamation is
currently in place -and work continues in progress - in the area referred to as the
Previous Upper Mine Area (Area "E"). Successful reclamation of previous drill sites
and exploration roads immediately south of [his upper site is also in place.
Much of the work accomplished in the area to-date has been performed with
guidance and participation provided by Glenwood BLM Office representatives.
Evaluation throughout several years of work has included monitoring of slope stability,
erosion control and the level of vegetative cover experienced with different seed
mixtures. Periodic site visitations by BLM throughout the years have also resulted in
conclusions that successful reclamation is taking place.
For ease of description in this update, areas of the "Old Mine" not yet fully
reclaimed are identified as five sub-areas (Areas "A" through "E"). These sub-areas are
