Box 915
Gunnison, CO 81230
November 3, 1998
Division of Minerals and Geology
Colorado Department of Natural Resources ;;~C~~VE~
Attention: Bill Carter
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 NOV ~ 6 1998
Denver, Colorado 80203
~~~-•~:~ :(;e'lnerals' d Geology
Dear Bill,
Hawksnest Mine was treated late this year. Early summer was
so hot and dry the plants were hardening off. As you know,
when this happens plants do not respond to herbicide. A fall
treatment was done. Research has shown excellent results with
fall treatments on knapweed and thistle. The hoary cress
should have been treated early but we were not able to do it.
A fall treatment was done on rosettes.
I did not treat the Russian Olive or Saltcedar this year.
Time just seemed to go by too fast. On the Russian Olive I
will do a basal treatment. However, on the Saltcedar a cut
stump treatment will be done. I will have to find a place to
put the trees that are cut down. They are not very big so it
should be easy to find a place to put them.
I would like to do some revegetation in some of the areas
where we are getting control of the knapweed and thistle.
Does DMG have any special requirements or recommendations?
Some of the areas are wet. It looks like the railroad company
is going to remove some of the track on the east end. If they
do, this area will need to be revegetated. We should try to
get them do it and pay for it.
Does the property across the river belong to the Hawksnest
Mine? I have not been over there to look but I would like to
do so.
Please get back to me on the revegetation, and call me if you
have any questions concerning the invoice.
Sincerely,
Adena L Green
Gunnison County Weed Coordinator
(970) 641-4393 Fax: (970) 641-0653 Email: gunweed@rmi.nec
