A
second inspection was conducted on Sunday morning, August 3, 1997.
2
RPE: Site lines for completed slope excavations (south slope) for Phase lA and 1B showed
no movement on July 31 or August 3. Phase 1C cut slopes (in progress) were also stable.
The RPE access road cut slope experienced minor Bluffing into the road ditch, however, the
ditch remains open and free running.
Sylvester Gulch Main Road: Cut slopes and other disturbed slopes adjacent to widened
sections of the lower Sylvester Gulch Road showed no failures or slumping on July 31 or
August 3. No additional failures, movement, or new cracking was observed at the failed fill
area (Stations 62 to 68) on July 31 or August 3. All other pioneered sections of the main road
appeared stable, including both approaches to the main crossing (F-walls).
Landing #2 Road: The light-use road to Landing #2 was inspected on August 3. Soil cut
slopes were dry and appeared stable, with no water observed in any cut slope. Numerous six
inch size rocks had fallen into the road; probably due to the Thursday rains, however, no road
or ditch washout was evident.
Dewatering Borehole Road: The three sight lines (upper, middle, lower) between Stations
15+00 and 19+00 were observed on July 31 and August 3. The sight lines and slope
conditions remain as previously reported, with some additional minor slumping observed after
the Thursday rains. Minor seepage associated with sandstone strata along this road is
continuing, and construction of French drains in this area are planned. MCC will continue to
monitor these slopes.
