Box 11430
Lexington, KY 40575-1430
RE: Sheridan Enterprises Coal Exploration Permit CX-153-OS
Dear Mr Turk,
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology has done some
research regarding outstanding exploration permits held by Sheridan
Enterprises. Several exploration permits held with the Division
are under a $25,000.00 state wide bond by Sheridan Enterprises.
Please refer to attached list for status of the exploration
projects. The Coal Exploration permit in question CX-153-08 is
located Fremont County, Colorado in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 Section 30, T205,
R69W.
On April 25, 1992 the land owner of the above mentioned legal
description, Dr. Corley, requested an Adjudicatory Hearing to
ascertain responsibilities on two issues. One of the issues was in
regards to an unreclaimed road constructed under coal exploration
permit CX-153-08. This road was apparently constructed by Sheridan
Enterprises November 13, 1978 to access drill hole NC-7 under coal
exploration permit CX-153-08. The drill holes were abandoned under
this exploration permit, but were sealed and plugged by the
landowner a few years back.
Enclosed, please find several slides of the unreclaimed road and a
general map of the location. Measurements were taken of the access
road during May, 1992 inspection. The road is 150 feet long and 10
feet wide. The road drops roughly 10 feet from the reclaimed
surface of the GEC West Pit at a 90 degree angle and then runs 65
feet on level ground. Plants have become established on the road
through invasion by natives. The road cut has not been stabilized
with vegetation. The photographs taken are of the drill hole and
associated road as well as the road north of the GEC West Pit on
the west side of the overburden stockpiles.
Per Rule 4.03.2(7)(v) and Rule 4.03.2(7)(vii) the Division requires
that fill slopes be rounded or reduced and shaped to conform the
site to adjacent terrain and to meet the natural drainage
restoration standards, and cut slopes shaped to blend with the
