~~Technical Revision to
Henderson Mine Permit C7o. 77-342
Page 7
minimizing unnecessary disturbance of areas subject to the
potential for erosion and maximizing the cost effectiveness of
this program.
The total area to be covered by tailing is approximately
1551 acres (re: 1981 amendment to permit). Therefore, the
total quantity of soil required to cover3 the entire tailing
surface one foot deep is 2.5 million yd During construction,
in addition to $lacing soil on the railroad berm, we stoc):pile~d
about 14,000 yd in front3 of the tailing dam. In 1978,
approximately 421,000 yd of soil from within the tailing basin
were stockpiled in Ute 3Park. Since 1978 we have placed
approximately 35,000 yd on benches of the tailing dams,
cleared for and constructed a road to another of the designated
stockpile areas, pushed soil up from the encroaching tailing,
and initiated hauling to the arrea. To date, therefore, these
amounts total about 470,000 yd .
The proposed soil salvage sequence that follows is tied
directly to the rate of tailing deposition throughout the
life of the mine:
Our revised plan is to continue to push up soil from the
perimeter of the tailing through 1985 for haulage to a
stockpile area at any time prior to the tailing contacting the
pushed-up soil. Thereafter, we will repeat this push up (or
scrape) and haul procedure on five-year cycles throughout the
life of the mine. This will maintain on five-year intervals,
beginning in 1990, sufficient stockpiled soil to cover the
tailing in existence at the end of each interval. The actual
status at the end of each year will be described in our Annual
Report.
Please contact us if you require clarification on any of
the items discussed.
Sincerely,
~~~~.
Charles L.
