tributary to the Williams Fork River. An integral feature of. the Hen-
derson Mill and tailing deposition system is a closed loop industrial
water circuit with a flood bypass system capable of handling a 200- ~
year snowflood. At termination of mining, the final tailing crest
elevation will be 8,900 feet. Inflow into the tailing pond will be
composed of water from Ute Creek, the East Branch of Ute Creek, the
West Branch of Ute Creek, and all surface area above and at the level
of the tailing pond.
The existing 200-year flood bypass facilities wi.11 be
abandoned after operations are terminated. The East Branch Reservoir
on the East.Branch of Ute Creek and the Ute Creek Reservoir- on Ute
Creek will be operational and maintained. Both the East Branch Dam
and the Ute Creek Dam are capable of passing a Probable Ma;cimum Flood.
Plant facilities located above these reservoirs will not bEa affected
by a flood. The tailing storage area is located below the dams. The
routing of a flood through this area will require minimal riew con-
struction to provide adequate and dependable protection fox' the
tailing embankment.
When operations are terminated, the tailing pond will have a
storage capacity of 21,000 acre-feet for flood waters, including 10
feet of freeboard between the water surface and the dam crest_ This
storage capacity and the continued use of the decant facilities, 100
c.f.s. capacity, will control all floods in the tailing area.
The final design, outlined above, is based upon flood
protection, as required, for each drainage area. The design involves
a m~n~mu_m~~p=*~ 1, operatio d maintenance expenditures and
provides a system that is~dependable for flood protection.
9-8
