Alternative 2: Disapproval of the Proposed Mining Plan
• Modification (the "No Action" Alternative).
Under this alternative, the Assistant Secretary would
disapprove the mining plan modification for Federal leases
C-1362, C-0117192, and D-044569, as described under
alternative 1.
If disapproved, about 20,000,000 tons of Federal coal in the
B seam would not be mined. Existing F-seam mining
operations at the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 mine would continue to
be conducted under the currently approved mining plan as
described above in the Background section.
B. Other Alternatives Considered But Eliminated From Detailed
Analysis
o Approval of the Proposed Mining Plan Modification
without Special Federal Conditions.
Two special Federal conditions of mining plan approval are
required to satisfy the requirements of Federal laws,
Executive orders, and regulations. The Assistant Secretary
could not approve the proposed mining plan modification
• without the special conditions. Therefore, this alternative
was not considered a reasonable alternative.
•
