C~
Water consumption supporting mining activities is not
expected to change under the proposed mining plan
modification. Net annual water depletion would be expected
to remain close to or less than the estimated annual net
depletion of 13.1 acre feet per year.
Western Field Operations
The addition of ramp and B seam mine development waste
materials to the lower refuse pile would have no impacts on
the North Fork of the Gunnison River alluvium.
The proposed mining in the B seam would not result in a
substantial loss or reduction of long-range productivity of
the water supply in the mine vicinity, including aquifers
and aquifer recharge areas.
The proposed mining plan modification will not affect
threatened or endangered species. The U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service concurred with OSM's assessment in their
opinion dated .7uly 14, 1989.

The mining plan modification proposed subsidence of the area
where a Cooper's hawk nest located. Such disturbance is not
allowed under special condition 2 of the approved mining
plan unless specifically authorized by BLM. Amore specific
condition is proposed for approval of this mining plan
modification to allow such subsidence only if approved by
BLM and only if WECC demonstrates that it would occur when
the nest is inactive or not being used during the breeding
and rearing season.
Landslide or rockfall activity would not substantially
increase due to subsidence effects. If movement of the
existing slope-failure area and rockfall areas under the B-
seam mining area were to occur, the resulting effects would
be minor due to the remoteness of the area and arid nature
of the surface resources.
/~ ~ ~-
~ - ~ ~~ ~~ ~
Chief, Federal Programs lvision Date
•
