Coal Methane Droinoge Project - Panek 76-29 IL"ert E!k A1rne • Poge 8
Livestock and Grazing -Road and drill pad construction would reduce the amount of forage
available for grazing, displace livestock, and affect grazing management for allotments within the
grazing rotation until forage is reestablished (approximately 2009). Reclamation would result in a
temporary (70 to 20 years) increase in forage as areas that are currently oakbrush are temporarily
converted to grass and forbs.
Air Quality -Road and drill pad constmcion and obliteration and road use during the project would
result in limited fugitive dust emissions and emission of approximately 1G.5 million cubic feet per day
of methane gas. Given that methane is lighter than air and prevailing winds of approximately 8 mph,
rapid dispersion and dilution of methane emissions would result in no localized or regional air qualiq~
impacts and no direct effects on flora or fauna. Air quality and visibilii}~ from the West Elk
\~/ilderness would not be affected.
Access and Recreation - 7"here are no effects common to al] action Alternatives (Alternatives 2, 3,
4, and 5) and the Public ATV Use Option.
Roadless Character -Project activities would further compromise roadless character during the
period from 2002 to 2008 (2002 to 2005 for Alternative 5). \X/ithin 70 to 20 years, the oakbrush would
be reestablished and roadless character would be restored to its previously compromised condition.
Socioeconomics -There are no socioeconomic effects common to all action alternatives.
EnvrronmenJalArterrment
R"\\P/MOUnlnn CpJ Cq/E9/IJnI~ i/i/0+!!1 USFc
3/5/Oi alv~
