Banta,
Division Director
DATE: August 13, 1990
T0: Cathy Begej
FROM: Jeff Clayton-~l~-G./
RE: Water Rights and Call Procedure on the North Fork of the Gunnison
I worked my way through the system to Mr. Jim Miller, Deputy Water Commissioner
for Water District 40 (North Fork of the Gunnison). He stated that the river
has had a decreed call since July 15, 1990. This call occurs within a couple
weeks of this date every year.
He appears well aware of the practices of the Bear and Mt. Gunnison Mines.
Mt. Gunnison is notified about two weeks before the call is placed and they
fill their reservoirs. Bear has a well and an "augmentation plan" with the
water people.
Mr. Miller feels that the mines are very cooperative and has never had any
problem with them. Earlier I talked with Mr. Bob Starr, Senior Water
Commissioner, and he, too, has had a trouble free relationship with the mines
since 1979 when he began this job.
Mr. Miller offered to take us around "hit the river" if we wished to see how he
goes about his business. He needs about a week's warning to set up the
appointment.
Their telephone numbers are as follows:
Mr. Jim Miller - 527-3559
Mr. Bob Starr - 872-3015
/ern
9426E
