MIATING PLAN

E}Q-IIBTT D (Continued)
20 foot barrier pillar will be maintained below the "upper level" (see Map Exhibit D-1A)
or the surface where applicable.
Two additional portals are planned and are shown on Map Exhibit D-1. Each of
the two subsequent portals will be put in as the then current portal is about to be
abandoned; the portals will be put into the footwall of the surface mining operation. Each
portal will disturb no more than 4 acres +/-, spoil areas included. Within one year after
any post-law portal is abandoned, reclamation of that azea will begin. Therefore no more
than 2 portals will be active at one time. These additional portals will be identified in the
annual reports. The mining methods in these new portals will no[ be changed.
Surface Mining (Map Exhibit D-1, D-1B end Figure 1)
Clays mined using open mining methods will be mined in two stages. The current
workings are located in Stage 1. Mining will continue both north and south from the
current workings to within approximately 50 feet of the permit boundary. Mining in
Stage 2 may begin prior to completion of all of the surface mining in Stage 1.
The current surface mining operation has been under a 110 Permit (see Map
Exhibit C for azea affected under the 110 Permit). The clay removed from this azea has
left a footwall approximately 75 feet in vertical height. Mining will continue downward
along this footwall, leaving no more than 150 feet of footwall exposed. Any overburden
(see Figure 1) or topsoil encountered during this period will be stockpiled to the east of
the current workings. The clay will be stockpiled on the mining floor and removed by
truck as needed. A ramp will be constructed to the pit floor to provide equipment access
and to be used by the trucks for removing the clay.
After full depth is reached at the current mining location, the topsoil from the next
area to be mined will continue to be stockpiled along the east edge of the azea shown as
major disturbance on Exhibit D-1. The overburden from where the topsoil was removed
will then be used to partially backfill the azea where the fixll
(Revised May 22, 2000)
9
