Climatological and Air Resources Information
The area receives approximately 20 inches of precipitation annually. Most occurs as
snowfall during the winter months.
The Colorado Department of Health has stated that the mine is exempted from an emission
permit under the grandfather clause of the Air Quality Control Act.
Climatological information is found on pages 15-16B and in Exhibit 7. Air Resources
information is found on page 9 and Exhibit 7.
Fish and Wildlife
The effect of the mining operation on wildlife is expected to be small for the following
reasons: 1) the surface disturbance is small (3.22 acres) and will not be increased in size;
2) there are no critical or unique habitats that will be affected by mining operation; and,
3) the plant species chosen for reclamation will provide food and cover for wildlife.
Information on potential affects to fish and wildlife are found on pages 14 and 15 and in
Exhibit 7 of the permit renewal application.
Cultural and Historic Resources
The USGS report concluded that there are no known archeological values on or near the
lands to be affected. The report further states that there may be some remnants of past
mining operations that are of historic interest, but these are probably of little importance
since they are highly deteriorated and beyond preservation. None of these sites will be
effected by the mining operation.
Because all surface disturbing activities have taken place, no survey for cultural resources
is required. If future expansion of operations with associated surface disturbance is
requested, a cultural resource inventory of these areas will be required prior to approval.
To comply with the requirements a stipulation was attached to the approval of the original
permit and continues in this permit. (Stipulation No. 1 can be found in Section A, part 5
of the Findings of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division for the O.C. Mine No. 2
portion of this document.)
O.C. Mine No.2 Findings 10 May 15, 1992
