Reporting Period September 30, 1997 -October 7, 1997
3
Dewaterinr? Borehole Road: The sight lines and slope conditions remain as previously reported.
Survey monuments were placed above the top of the redesigned cut slope on September 24, as
committed to in our MR 224 response. Subsequent surveys on September 27 and October 4 show
some minor movement that MCC believes is attributable to survey error. Monitoring will continue.
Clearing work for the french drains for this slope is in progress.
Substation Sloae: Visual observations and survey data for the slope above the substation indicates
movement is continuing at a slow and gradual pace, with incremental movements decreasing over time.
No advancement of the head scarp further upslope and into the Landing #2 road vas observed. The
completed mid-slope french drain appears to be functioning effectively. Monitoring will continue.
Shaft Site # 1 and #2: The compacted soil buttress installed to stabilize the shallow slope failure on
the steep cut slope south of Shaft #1 was observed on October 7. The buttress appears solid and no
new movement was visually detected. Slopes to either side of the buttress area were also observed and
appeared stable. Site lines aze straight and intact. Visual monitoring and collection of surface survey
data will continue.
Electric Borehole Road: This road is complete, except for guardrail installation. Temporary berms
and permanent ditches are in place. Road cuts and fills are stable.
Shaft Site #3: As of October 7, the Shaft #3 site is 98% complete with final finish work for rip rap
placement in progress. Soil slopes are dry and stable. Rock slopes appear solid. The shaft drilling
contractor has mobilized to the site.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (970) 929-2207.
Sincerely,
~. w
Eric W.
