Loye
Dear Sir:
Your inspection report of the Portland quarry was received
yesterday, the same day on which we mailed the annual report
to the attention of Mr. Jim Schmieding.
I discussed the contents of the inspection report with the
Portland plant manager, Mr. Willard Gordon, by telephone.
Although the topsoil stockpiles indicate appreciable natural
growth, we agree broadcasting of seed to help stabilize the
surfaces by more vegetation will be accomplished. The two
topsoil stockpiles will probably remain undisturbed for
3-5 seasons.
Portland plant personnel will immediately check with the local
SCS office for recommended seed mixture and seeding times. As
you know, the SCS have been most cooperative and resourceful
in vegetation test plot work at this site. Experimental seedings
without initial watering at Ideal's Boettcher plant have shown
good germination and fast growth of vegetation such as rabbit
brush and four wing saltbrush when broadcast in wet snow. As
experimental grass plantings have been more difficult to establish,
other native vegetation such as mentioned, may have advantages
for temporary stabilization purposes. We will keep you advised
of progress.
The annual report suggested an
and bonded acres from 225.9 to
hopes to at least rough grade
overburden deposit surface by
Sincerely,
R.
