RE: FILE: Our Project No. 26,018-01 March 16, 1996 PACE 10 Slta Vlslt Observetlons Tatum Residence Solitario Ranch 12830 Highway 12 Weston, Lae Animas County, CO On February 23, 198b,1 met at the Tatum residence with Carl Gerity of Pioneer Engineering, Consulting Engineers. The purpose of the visit was to obsdrve the condition of the residence, and develop englneering aplniona with respect to cracks which have developed In the stnlcttlre. 7'he structure was built In the 1930'x, end Is an adobe ranch-atyl9 building. The adobe blocks have plaster covering on the outside end inside. The main building Is a ane-story structure except for the front and where there Is a two-rtory portlon which contains bedrooms, The kitchen Is found et the rear of the house. There la a partial basement below the kitchen area. Attached to the rear, southwest, Oi the residence, is a covered patio extending to a garage, leaving the overall footprirrt Including the nsldence, the patio end the garage, an L-shape. The house Itsel} is rectengubr. 'The basic construction of the residence is stucco Covered adobe walls with exposed log ceiling beams and rough-hewn roof telling boards. This Is s southwestern style home with fireplaces inmost of the rooms, For five purpose of this memorandum the front of the house is assumed to be east. My obaervatlona inslds tFle naldence ere as follows. We entered the rsaidsn6a through the rear pstlo door. This enters into the kitchen, which I understand has been recently remodeled by the current owners, knocking out some previous partition walla end adding some skylights. However, the basic log roof beams ere still in place. The room immediately east of the kitchen Is a dining roam. There Is a fireplace in the southwest Corner, a narrow window In the east wall, and doors to adjacent roams In the east and north walls. Triers are cracks in the stucco plaster In the southeast comer of the room, where corner the plaster la cracked and moderately buckled up to about 1 /4". The plaster is probably becoming locally separated from the adobe- At the south wall, et the Hoor board, there is a separation at the molding of between 1/8" and 1/4" where there is a relative outward movement center of the wall. Then Is minor plaster cracking around most of the window openings with more extensive cracking et the top. The plaster cracking at the top, west, end of the window extends up to a ceiling beam.
