Ftr, John Walters
Page 2
September 7, 1983
As general protective considerations, no mine developments should occur on
the surface of the described buffer zones and no human disturbances of any
nature should be allowed between February 15 and July 15 of any given year.
However, you should also be aware that golden eagle buffer zones are not in-
tended to totally preclude all mining activities. Certain types of developments
and certain activities can often occur within buffer zones without adversely
affecting golden eagle nesting success. Therefore, even though it does not
appear that your company's facilities will conflict with nesting eagles, if
the need arises to enter a buffer zone, please consult with either this office
or our Grand Junction office.
Finally, we wish to express our appreciation for your support of efforts to
provide more detailed raptor data for Sheridan Enterprises' permit lands.
Because of the intensity of the July 20th survey and given the nature of your
company's mining plans, we do not feel that an additional raptor survey next
year is warranted. If mine plans change significantly in the future, additional
surveys may be needed. "--
If you have any questions regarding the Jul} 20th survey, please contact
either m;~self, Atike Lockhart or Rick Krueger.
Sincerely,
c~~ " ` V' V
Energy Project Leader
cc: /Brian Munson, MLRB
Doug Afcl'ean, BLhf
Jim Morris, CDOW
FWS, Grand Jct.
