XVIII. Coal Processing 'Taste and Non-Coal Processing Waste -Rules 2.05.3(8
No coal processing waste as defined by the regulations is produced at the King
Coal Mine. However, roof fall material is generated by the operation and
temporarily stored on the surface for subsequent backstowing within worked out
mine sections. Information pertaining to the disposal of roof-fall material
is presented in Section 2.05.3, pages 2 and 3 of the permit application.
The roof fall material is composed primarily of sandstone and shales which
occur within an approximate 20-foot thick layer of strata situated between the
top of the coal seam and the base of the Cliff House Sandstone. Upon
undermining, roof falls involving this immediate problematic roof section are
encountered. Even though an approved roof control bolting program is
conducted by the permittee, some roof fall waste is generated systematically.
During past operations 10 to 26 tons of this waste material has been
temporarily stockpiled on the surface (6 month maximum) and periodically
backstowed within worked out sections of the mine. All drainage from the
temporary surface storage area is contained in the sediment ponds. Such
backstowing is encouraged by the Division as the practice serves to provide
partial support of subsiding roof sections, thereby lessening the magnitude of
encountered ground surface subsidence.
The operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
XIX. Mine Facilities. Coal Handling Structures and Support Facilities: Roads
ons - Kuies
A. Mine Facilities, Coal Handling Structures and Support Facilities
Information pertaining to surface facilities of the King Coal Mine is
presented in Section 2.05.3 of the permit application. Map C-4 depicts the
location and configuration of each structure or facility currently existing at
the mine. Facilities presently consist of the office building, change house,
shop, scale house, security trailer, guard shack, tipple area and crusher,
stacker and conveyors, coal storage bins, coal stockpiles, electrical
substation, mine exhaust fan, 10,000 gallon water storage tank, sediment
ponds, combination access/haul road, and diversion ditches. A water well and
temporary roof fall material storage area also exist on the site. The mining
operation has no remote or off-site facilities and no additional facilities
are proposed to be constructed during the second five-year permit term.
Roads
Information regarding the only existing combination access/haul road at the
King Coal T4ine is provided in Section 2.05.4 of the revised permit
application. Map C-4 depicts the location and configuration of the road.
-21-
