~ TRAPPER DINING INC. ~
iii iiiiiiiuiiii iii
999
December 4, 1990
Mr. David Berry
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
215 Centennial Bldg.
1313 Sherman St.
Denvet, CO 80203
Dear David:
y~ 1.~ _ -, ,~.~.
DEC :" :='J
h9ined Land
Rec!ama:ion =;`.'.'lion
Subject: Mitigation response for the overburden slide lopted at the south end of Cut 83 in Ashmore Pit.
Concerning our telephone conversation on 1129f90, Trapper Mine has successfully repaired the overburden
slide located at the south end of Cut 88 in Ashmore pit. During the week of November 19th, the Baby Doe
dragline cast spoils onto the toe of the slide in an effort to reinforce the embankment and create a safe envi-
ronment for Trapper personnel to work. Following dragline spoil placement, a D9N dozer was dispatched
to the area to seal the slide for safety purposes and to prevent surface water from entering the crevices. This
was accomplished by 1129FJ0.
In addition to the safety concerns, Trapper feared the slide could extend into undisturbed lands south of the
spoil and topsoil could be lost as a result of the slide's advance. This did not occur. Conditions of the slide
changed very little since your 10/15/90 inspection of the area.
In our mitigation plan submitted to the Division on 102990, Trapper stated that scrapers or dozers may be
used to salvage topsoil along the existing stripline to prevent possible contamination. Trapper does not
believe this additional disturbance will be necessary as our mitigation measures have halted further move-
ment of the slide.
David, we will keep you informed of any changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please call.
Sincerely,
~"'~'/
~~
William Agnew
Sr. Environmental Engineer
WA/jb
]CMLRDWEC04]
E.C.
