United States Department of the Interior <br />• <br />w nrsrx aFttx ro <br />OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING <br />Rxlamation and Enforcement <br />1999 Broadway, Suite 3320 <br />Iknver, Colorado 80202-5733 <br />April 10, 2001 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Lowell Madsen, Assistant Regional Solicitor <br />Denver Field Office <br />FROM: Carl Johnston, Colorado Federal Lands Coordinator <br />SUBJECT: Mining Plan Decision Document for Bowie Resources LTD's <br />Bowie No. 2 Mine <br />CO-0103 <br />I have attached the draft mining plan modification decision document for Federal lease <br />COC-61209 at the Bowie No. 2 Mine. <br />This is a mining plan modification for Federal lease COC-61209 to extend mining and <br />• coal recovery from the D-2 coal seam, in throughout [he Iron Point Tract Federal coal <br />lease COC-61209, within the area covered by Colorado Stale permit C-96-083. <br />Processing of a this mining plan modification had been delayed due to bonding problems. <br />The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) issued the permittee a Notice of <br />Violation (NOV) to secure an acceptable replacement reclamation bond previously issued <br />by Frontier Insurance. DMG has terminated their NOV effective April 9, 2001. <br />Due to [he processing delay caused by the lack of an acceptable replacement reclamation <br />bond, they may run out of recoverable coal sometime around the middle of April. <br />Consequently, an expedited review of this mining plan modification is requested. <br />Please review the document and provide me your comments at your earliest convenience. <br />If you have any questions, please contact me at (303) 844-1400, extension 1500. <br />Attachment <br />• <br />
