Ms. Ann Cotton, Assistant Planner
Pueblo County Planning & Development
May 6, 1999
Page 2
Since there are no plans to erect any permanent structures in this S.U.P. azea, we believe that any
Flood Hazard Area Development Permit is not needed. As you know, Van Tnian of the Corps of
Engineers has been alerted on this application. We have talked to Van and he knows the area, and
stated that lie would like to inspect afrer the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (MLRB)
notifies him, however, he didn't think there were any problems
Please note that crushing and screening will take place on the S.U.P. area, and that we have located
the equipment and stockpiles between 500 fr and 600 fr to the east of the Southwest "John Sliman"
property. This was done with his input and Lafarge informal agreement ott May 4, 1999 between
John Sliman and Patrick Reeves, Manager for Lafarge.
The mining of this area, approximately 300 acres, will take about sixty (60) years, with five (5) acres
per year being mined. Since this is a wet pit, dust from the mining will be minimal.
2.) The Reclamation Map shows the final configuration of the mined area, which will be a lake, and
the end ttse has trot been decided as of yet. The landowner may want some specific requirements,
and we are working with him and also with our owm reclamation personnel. Therefore we only know
at this time that vve will have a lake. The lake will meet all of DMG-MLRB specifications. The
earthen berm shown on the Reclamation Plan Map is a low berm, intended to keep all of our
stormwater on site, and not to change the historical pattern.
We hope this will help in your review of S.U.P. application 1999-007, and if we can be of any more
help, please call.
Sincerely,
Joe P.
