I recently became aware that, according to the 12`x' Volume, Fall 2000, Watershed Connection,
Linda Luther was working for the San Niguel County Planning Department, funded by the EPA's
Source Water Coordinator, during 2000.
Attachment D-11 is a letter dated September 5`c', 2000 from Linda Lather on behalf of the San
Miguel Watershed Coalition to the Janke family -second paragraph, "In a recent e-mail, EPA's Mike
Wireman said he would indeed delineate Ames' source lands. I am still vague about the issue with
Ames' organizational structure. However, as soon as the delineation is done, we should get together to
discuss the inventory. Then I can probably do the remainder of the Source Water Assessment for
you."
Would you (Commissioners, Ms. Luther, Mr. Rozycki) also please provide me with any
County records of or County krrowledge regarding the receipt, retention and County follow-up to such
letter, attaclunent D-11? Could you please inform me as to (a) the status of (and any future County
role in) efforts to delineate and perform, or support Source Water Protection for the Ames/Lake Fork
Area? and (b) Why was the Ames/Lake Fork Area overlooked in the original County grant work to
delineate and.protect source water along other nearby portions of the San Miguel River?
My personal concern is with our drinking water quality and the health of the San Miguel River.
I hope that you seriously consider and respond to the issues raised in this letter. I look forward to your
responses.
Thank you,
Biil Janke
cc: Steve Zwick, SMC
Mike Rozycki, SMC
Marie Thomas, SMC
Gary Hodges, SMC
Mike Long, CDMG
Vern Berry, EPA
Mike Wireman, EPA
Kathy Dolan, CDPHE
Ken Jacobsen, ACE
Steve Jokuison, Atty
Marcia Ewell
Tom Kennedy, Atty
Gene Daclconish, Atty
Joan May, Sheep Mountain Alliance
San Miguel River Watershed Coalition
Bill Taylor, Lake Fork Junction
