.,
January 2, 2001
San Miguel County Commissioners
Telluride, Colorado
Re: Water Quality Testing
Hello:
We are concerned about the water flowing out of the fill slope at Pathfinder Pit. These are
springs of some sort or drainage that is carrying silt and sediment into the Lake Fork
Stream. The fill material dumped by Pathfinder is of unknown origin, as described by
D.M.G. Inspection Reports. This water flow carrying unknown sediment has the
potential of polluting our drinking water supply. We have conducted our own water
quality tests on the Lake Fork above Pathfinder and below the waterfalls near our
subdivision as well as testing water from the Homeowner's deep well in Filing #2. We
show increased levels of contaminants and heavy metals. The source of these could
possibly be coming from Pathfinder, Matterhorn Tailings or the Butterfly Mine Site. The
source of these contaminants is of great interest to the Lake Fork junction Homeowners
Association. We request: that the County Health and Environment Department conduct
water quality tests on the: water flowing from this site on Pathfinder property.
Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated and we look forward to
hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
n~~
Lake Fork Junction Homeowners Association
Board of Directors
P.
