With a total production rate of approximately <br />200,000 tons per year, there would continue to be <br />an estimated 18 to 20 coal trucks, making two trips <br />per day, travelling county roads and highways for <br />approximately 250 days of the year over the 13-15 <br />years life of the mine. Truck traffic will <br />continue to cause deterioration of county roads and <br />highways. State and County laws concerning road <br />and highway use must be met by the applicant. <br />Indirect Impacts- No impacts have been identified. <br />Cumulative Impacts- No impacts have been <br />identified. <br />i 7. Socioeconomics <br />Direct Impacts- Under this alternative the King <br />Coal mine would continue to operate for an <br />additional 2 to 3 years and approximately 78 people <br />would remain employed for those additional years. <br />Over $1,920,000 annually in payroll would continue <br />to be spent for goods and services in the area. <br />Federal, State and local governments would continue <br />to share approximately $325,000 in direct tax <br />revenues and $324,000 in royalties. <br />Miners would be able to have well-paying jobs and <br />live in their home towns. Local people dependent <br />upon coal for home heating would have a dependable <br />local supply. Two tourist trains important to the <br />area would have a local source of coal for their <br />operation. <br />Indirect Impacts- No impacts have been identified. <br />Cumulative Impacts- No impacts have been <br />identified. <br />C. Alternative 2 - No Action <br />There are no known impacts to the following resources in <br />the proposed lease area: climate, air quality, <br />recreation, soils, geology, mineral resources, water <br />resources, vegetation, wildlife, land use, cultural or <br />visual resources. <br />• 14 <br />
