Ever since we read the EPA's report to Congress on Cement Kiln Dust,
many residents have been deeply concerned about the potential adverse effects of
this substance on our water resources. Our fears were heightened when we read
about Southdown's plant in Fairborn, Ohio that was supposedly leaching heavy
metals into a tributary of the Mad River. It is gratifying to know that Southdown's CKD
disposal plan in Boulder County will be monitored closely and appropriately.
Please send us a copy of the ruling or disposition of the issues that are addressed in
the last two paragraphs or your report when available.
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Ricrgil~
St. Vrain Valley Community Watchdogs' Steering Committee
"Protect what's c(asest (o your heart: your family, your friends and your lungs."
15 February 1999
