On September 1, 1989
the last coal shot occurred at CYCC, and due to the very dry conditions at
the mine, resulted in a small fire adjacent to the Area 61 pit. The area is
on the south side of Area 61 between the pit edge and lower road. It is
estimated 2-3 acres were burned before the fire was extinguished.
Fire fighting activities included both the use of a water truck and
dozer to construct a fire break. It is planned to bring the dozer back to
the site and dress up the fire break. The area will be seeded during the
fall of 1990, if the area does not show sign of revegtating itself.
Presently, it is anticipated that all of the coal will be hauled from
the Area 61 pit by mid to late September. Unless the coal removal is
delayed, CYCC's mine will be in a reclamation status from this point forward.
If there are any questions, please give me a call at your convenience.
Sincerely,
1~+GQsO' /~%y~'J~
Richard Mills
Supervisor, Environmental Affairs
RAMJdg
c~RUs
