The construction of the explosives magazine and access road was initi-
ated in 1984 and completed in 1985.
In addition to the Certification, the fallowing map titled "Explosive
Storage Area" is included for your information.
The design specifications in the approved plan were met or exceeded during
construction. A minor design change was implemented in regard to the surface drain-
age structures in the vicinity of the three explosive storage pads. The surface
drainage from the storage areas was originally designed to flow north along the
access road leading eventually to the work area pond. However, due to the topog-
raphy of the area, surface disturbance was held to a minimum by directing surface
drainage from the explosive storage pads east into the pit rather than north along
the access road. This drainage design resembles the old magazine drainage which
also drained into the pit area. Since less than half of the original design area
drains to the north, the constructed drainage structures easily meet or exceed the
drainage control requirements of the approved plan.
If you have any questions concerning the construction of the Explosives
Storage Magazine, please call at your convenience.
Sincerely,
JAK/yml
Attachment
cc: R.G.
