-I~-
The soils found in the permit arez are described in section 2.04.9 of the
permit application. 'Three soil types occur within the proposed permit area
as shown on map 4 oC this report. 1'he soil types are Louviers-TravessilLa
Rock Outcrop Comple.~c (LT~, Manzano Loam, (TPI) and the },ouviers-Travessilla
Complex (LTE). Ninty-five percent of the area to be disturbed by the
mining operation is in the LTE complex where three soil samples were taken.
The soil samples were analyzed and no limiting factors were identified.
'Che other 5% of the area to be disturbed is composed of LT and TPl where no
soil samples were taken. In order to provide adequate soil baseline
information the following stipulation is necessary:
Stipulation No. 2
a
'C}IE APPLICAiIT ifUST SAMPLE M'D eV~LppYZ~P. T} E SOIL TTPES OF P1AZ:'1N0 LOM1,
(TTf) AND LOIJVIERS-TRAVESSILLA~Z~UMPL~''.1tY~T' ). THE SOILS }P:PORA1ATfUN
P}U8T INCLUDE DEPTH OP SOIL HORIZONS, AND M ANALYSIS OF THE FOLLOFIINC
PARMIETERS IN ACCORllANCE WITH RULE 2.04.9: pll, ELECTR000NDUCTIVITY,
SAR, TEXTURE, PARTICAL SIZE ANALYSIS, SELINIUM, PERCENT ORCA.NIC
PSATTER, AND SATURATION PERCENTAGE. THE INFORitATION MUST L3E PROVIDED
TO THE DIVISION WITHIN 6 MONTHS AFTER PERIā¢iIT ISSUANCE.
-~~j 'Che vegetation field work conducted in the permit and adjacent areas is
Found in section 2.04,10 and on map No. 5 of the permit application.
'fwo natural plant cotmnunities were identi.Eied: 1) grassland and 2) pinon-
juniper. The gently sloping portions of Che permit area are characterized
by a diversity of grasses, (orbs, and low shrubs (grassland). 1Jhereas,
the steeper slopes have a cover cf. pinon and juniper interupted by
decidious shrubs (pinon-juniper). None of the species identified as
rare or endangered were observed in the permit area during vegetation,
data collection.
Premining and reference areas were sampled in the summer oC 198L. Determination
of sample size and similarity were derived using the Office of Surface
Ptining guidelines. °A Survey of Techniques for Measurement of Herbaceous
and Shrub Production, Cover and Density, on Coal Lands in the F'est."
Results of the vegetative sampling of cnver, composition and productivity
are as Follows:
Cover(%)
premine reference
~ 2
Plant Density (stems/100m ) Production ( (S '-:m )
premine
Grassland 36.64 35.51 145
Pininr juniper 8.29 10.14 5G
reference premine reference
12^_ ]0.8 15.4
62 .164 .247
~rnnpari:;ons between reference areas and pr erring aruas were made and a
"t" test statistic performed. There coos a statistical difference for
cover and production on the pinon-juniper community and for production
on the grassland communit}'. T.n each case where this difference ex isCs,
the reference areas contained the hither values. 'therefore, the Division
will accept these standards (or Enturc reference to determine revegeCation
success.
