~s~ <br />~,~ 6M - ~/ % - OOZ <br />AMERICAN ~/ ~S ~d Cooley <br />S O D A, L L P Environmental Health and <br />Safety Manager <br />2717 County Road 215 <br />Parachute, CO 81635 <br />Friday, March 05, 2004 <br />Allen Sorenson v <br />Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology <br />Department of Natural Resources <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />Re: <br />Dear Allen: <br />Direct Line (970) 2850407 <br />International Telephone +1 (970) 285-6500 <br />General Facsimile (970) 285-6393 <br /> <br />MAR i p 10Qq ENV.51.04 <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />1/ <br />Revised Cavity Characterizatlon Plan <br />American Soda presented a plan to determine the shape of the solution mining cavities being <br />developed at the Yankee Gulch Sodium Minerals Project in Rio Blanco County, Colorado to <br />the EPA, BLM and CDMG at a meeting held on December 16, 2003. <br />At the conclusion of that meeting it was determined that a revised Cavity Characterization <br />Plan would be developed by American Soda and presented to the agencies for review prior <br />to the next meeting which was held on Wednesday February 19, 2004. <br />Discussions from the meeting of February 19, 2004, and a review of permits associated with the <br />solution mining of Nacholite on the Yankee Gulch Sodium Minerals Leases have resulted in the <br />following actions: <br />A revision to Section 3 of the BLM Commercial Mine Plan has been made to allow for <br />extending well diameter beyond 200 feet to test maximum production capacity while <br />maintaining cavity integrity. <br />Review of the Area Wide UIC Permit does not indicate any limitation for extending the well <br />diameter, <br />Review of the 112 Reclamation Permit does not indicate any limitation for extending well <br />diameter. <br />Affer consulting with the EPA, BLM and CDMG, American Soda is planning to proceed with <br />Alternative 2 of the ASLLP Solution Mining Cavity Characterization Plan, <br />Delivering a Crystal Clear Advantage <br />www.americansoda.com <br />
