LaRue, Case Manager
12200 Pecos Street
Westminster, CO 80234
RE: Response to Request for Comments
Case Name: Tucson South Resource Mine
Case Number: EXG2004-00004
Dear Mr. LaRue:
This is a letter of comments regarding Aggregate Industries' („AI) application for
a conditional use permit for major excavation and hauling permit to mine sand
and gravel on 290.7 acres located at 13115 E. 160th Avenue ("Tucson South").
AI has another sand and gravel mining operation adjacent to the area they are
requesting to mine. This other mining operation is known as the Tucson resource
sand and gravel mine ("Tucson Pit's.
I have several reasons for commenting to you on AI's proposed Tucson South
operation, some of which are as follows:
My home is in the neighborhood and part of the proposed operation will
be adjacent to my property. The Tucson South operation, as proposed,
will have substantial direct negative impact on my neighbors and me for a
significant and what I believe to be unreasonable amount of time.
AI has not demonstrated their ability to be a 'good neighbor" as
evidenced by the fact that the Tucson Pit has been and is an eyesore, the
Tucson Pit has what I believe to be significantly dangerous conditions
which have not been corrected by AI and AI has historically been very
unresponsive to complaints and dealing with issues raised by neighbors in
our area. The area proposed for the Tucson South operation is
substantially larger than the Tucson Pit and accordingly, will be much
more visible to the general public and will have much larger "open pit"
1
