ti <br /> <br />MONITCtRING REQUIREMENTS <br />7. j'hase I TRE <br />PAR~I <br />Page if of 19 <br />Permit No. CO-0043168 <br />7~e Phase I TRE performed by the permittee shall be in general <br />accordance with Methods for Aquatic Toxicitv Identification <br />~ivaluations. Phase I. Toxicitv Characterization Procedures (September, <br />1988) published by EPA, or in accordance with procedures approved by <br />the Division. If only one species demonstrated toxicity during <br />:accelerated testing, then that species alone may be used in the Phase I <br />'fRE. The permittee has 45 days from the submission (date of receipt) <br />of the final report on the preliminary toxicity investigatiott to <br />complete the Phase I TRE and submit (date of receipt) a report to the <br />Division on the results of the study. <br />If the Phase I TRE identifies a probable toxicant and/or a probable <br />source of toxicity, the permittee shall submit written notification to <br />that effect to the Division as part of the report. Within 30 days of <br />submission (date of receipt) of the Phase I TRE, the permittee shall <br />submit (date of receipt) for the Division's approval a control program <br />to control WET, and shall proceed to implement such plan within 7 days <br />following approval by the Division. <br />If the Phase I TRE fails to identify a probable toxicant and/or a <br />probable source of toxicity, the permittee shall notify the Division of <br />its findings and proceed with a Phase II TRE. <br />If *_oxicity disappears during the Phase I TRE, tha permittee shall <br />submit written notification to that effect to the Division. The <br />Division may require the permittee to conduct accelerated testing to <br />demonstrate the con*_inued absence of toxicity. If no acute toxicity is <br />found to exist, the permittee shall resume normal quarterly testing. <br />8. Phase II TRE <br />A plan for a Phase II TRE shall be submitted (date of receipt) to the <br />Division by the permittee within 60 days of the submission (date of <br />receipt) of the Phase II TRE Report. The Phase II TRE, as submitted to <br />or revised by the Division, shall be incorporated into the permit as a <br />modified compliance schedule. <br />The Phase II TRE plan shall include the scope, methods, procedures, <br />reporting requirements, and schedules. !. Phase II TRE may follow <br />either of two directions, as appropriate: toxicant treatability <br />studies, or toxicant/source identification and control studies. <br />Toxicant treatability studies are designed to assess the feasibility of <br />eliminating WET via addition or modification of treatment processes at <br />the wastewater treatment facility. <br />c 1003!1 Revised 12-30-91 <br />
