C-010-81 - PROPOSAL ON MEASUREMENT OF
REVEGETATION SUCCESS CRITERIA
I have reviewed Trapper Mining's May 25, 1983 corresponsdence and proposal in
response to stipulation No. 1 of their permit. As you are aware, the operator
was required to propose methods for evaluation of revegetatton success for
Division approval.
The Division would accept the alternative method for evaluating revegtatlon
success proposed in the above-referenced letter, with the following
modifications.
In short, the operator proposes to use the reference areas (weighted by actual
disturbances to each vegetative community) to determine standards for cover
and production by which to measure revegetative success.
For cover the analysis will take this form:
The hypotheses to be tested will be:
Ho Pm > .9 Pr
Ha Pm ~ .9 Pr
Nhere: Pr the average herbaceous plant cover on
the reference areas
Pm = the average herbaceous plant cover on the
revegetated area
If the cover on the revegetated area is greater to or equal to 90 percent of
the cover on the weighted reference areas the revegetatlon will be yudged
successful with respect to cover.
If the absolute cover value from the revegetated area is less than the
quantity (.9 Pr) a stasittcal test is warranted to determine whether the
absolute cover value is within acceptable statistical confidence limits of the
standard (i.e., with 80 percent confidence, is Pm > .9 Pr). The
statistical
measure to be used will be a ~-test as adapted for binomial data, taking the
form:
