1
1
1.4.2 Mapping
' Field mapping of soils for the undisturbed portion of
the pad area was done directly on high quality black and
' white aerial photos of 1" 1,667' scale. High intensity
mapping was employed with delineations as small as two acres
' where necessary. Vegetation, topographic landmarks, and
numerous spade and auger holes were used to determine mapping
' unit boundaries. Constant reference was made to available
' SCS soil series descriptions and ranges of characteristics
to maintain a high degree of correlation with properties
' of the soils.
' 1.4.3 Mapping Unit Design
Survey techniques were designed to ensure that mapping
unit design was compatible to the needs and uses of the
' survey. A mapping unit in this survey is comprised of:
' 1) A single soil series phase or phase of series variant.
2) A complex of soil series phases.
3) An association of soil series phases.
The majority of mapping units are a single soil type, either
series phase or phase of series variant with less than 15
1 percent inclusions of other soil and/or land type.
1
1
' -6-
