Coal mining has had very large economic contribution to our area with relatively low
envvonmental impact. Our area benefiu from royalty, property tax, severance tar, grants for school
construction and other infrastructure, as well as wages supporting area businesses. There need to be studies
of such impact as it relates [o our overall economy.
Delta County as a whole will benefit greatly from the Iron Point and Elk Creek Tracts being in full
production. There needs to be a study of the flow of money from coal mining to Delta County. We believe
it is significant.
We believe that there will be much adverse effect upon the Noah Fork Valley and Delta County if
coal mining is restricted. It has been around for a long time, and benefited many lives and businesses.
Those who have come into the valley in recent years apparently have no respect for the history and
established relationships, at least those who are now opposing the projects. It is no[ appropriate for a small
number of people to dictate to tht majority of citizens and businesses that rely upon and have very good
relationships with the coal industry. There needs to be a study of the adverse economic impact to our area
i(the mines were not here.
Finally, the question remains as [o why newcomers did not understand the type of area [hey were
moving to before coming to a coal mining area. The majority of citizens and businesses who have been
here for years are comforable with the coal indts;r~, and its pc.:nives far oc>..eig:; ,,::~ ra ~ti~:;. : zan::
you for your kind attention and consideration.
Si~ly„ ~
~ ~r'L~ ~i71
Clinton W'.
