Stipulation No. 3

WELLS AT SITE GW-42-S2W-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6A, and 7A WILL BE MONITORED
MONTHLY FOR WATER LEVEL (TO BE REPORTED IN FEET ABOVE OR BELOW LAND
SURFACE DATUM) AND FIELD PARAMETERS (TEMPERATURE, SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE AND
pH ). QUARTERLY WATER QUALITY SAMPLES WILL ALSO BE TAKEN AT EACH WELL FOR
THE SAME PARAMETERS AS REPORTED IN THE PERMIT APPLICATION IN TABLE 7-77.
Stipulation No. 4
PEABODY COAL COMPANY MUST SUBMIT T0, AND, HAVE APPROVED BY THE DIVISION A
PLAN FOR MONITORING SPOILS WATER. THIS PLAN SHOULD INCLUDE INSTALLATION
OF SPOILS MONITORING WELLS, A SCHEDULE OF MONITORING WELLS, A SCHEDULE OF
MONITORING AND A LISTING OF PARAMETERS TO BE MONITORED. THIS PLAN MUST
SUBMITTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF PERMIT ISSUANCE.
Stipulation No. 5
PEABODY COAL COMPANY WILL SUBMIT AN ANNUAL HYDROLOGIC REPORT TO THE
DIVISION FOLLOWING EACH WATER YEAR (OCTOBER 1 TO SEPTEMBER 30). Surface Water Hvdrolo4v - Rules 2.04.5, 2.04.7, 2.05.3(4), 2.05.6(3
Information on the surface water hydrology can be found in Tab 7, Hydrology,
Exhibits 7-l, 7-6, and 7-8 through 7-3, and Appendices 7-5, 7-6, 7-8, and 7-9.
Surface water at the Seneca II-W Mine lies within two watersheds. The entire
affected area lies within the Dry Creek Drainage and is drained by Hubberson
Gulch and an unnamed tributary to Dry Creek. A small portion of the southeast
permit area drains to Sage Creek. Both creeks empty into the Yampa River near
Hayden. Both Dry Creek and Sage Creek exhibit intermittent flows influenced
by springs located within and adjacent the permit boundary.
Peabody Coal Company currently monitors one site on Hubberson Gulch downstream
of mining disturbance in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey. This
site is equipped with a continuous recorder and periodic water quality samples
are obtained. Water is of a calcium-magnesium sulfate type and is of poor
quality, suitable for livestock watering and irrigation of salt-tolerant crops
grown in well drained soils.
_pp_
