Phase IVc Summary No. 14 Page 2 043-2170
Ames continued excavation of the Phase IVc Anchor trench on the eastem section of the VLF. Ames
excavated approximately 200 feet of anchor trench in preparation of geomembrane installation during
this reporting period.
Ames continued production of bentonite-amended SLF at the screen plant and pug mill located above
the Ames materials yazd. Ames also continued production of Drain Cover Fill (DCF) material at the
screen plant by the secondary crusher.
Poly-Flex continued deployment of 80-mil single-sided textured LLDPE geomembrane in the Phase
IVc OSA. Geomembrane was installed in the Phase PJc OSA on the south facing slope of Raven Hill
downwazd to the Phase fVb/IVc tie-in. Poly-Flex deployed 80-mil single-sided textured LLDPE
geomembrane over an azea of approximately 298,883 squaze feet in the Phase IVc OSA during this
reporting period. Geomembrane panels C-570 through C-657 were deployed, seamed, and tested by
Poly-Flex. Destructive fusion seam samples DFc-201 through DFc-234 were mazked and removed.
Destructive fusion and extmsion seam peel and shear testing on samples DFc-188 through DFc-213 and
DXc-21 were performed and passed per project specification.
Ames continued hauling, placement and grading of DCF material into the Phase IVc OSA in the central
and eastern sections of the VLF, Raven Hill azea. Ames placed DCF material and High Volume
Solution Collection (HVSC) piping per the project plans onto approved geomembrane panels.
A map of the azea worked during this reporting period is provided in Attachment C.
Field Monitoring and Testing Activities
Golder observed construction activities associated with Phase IVc earthworks. All construction
materials and soil materials placed were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in
accordance with project specifications,
Golder observed the excavation and constmction of the LDT in the Phase IVc VLF for trench
dimensions (1' wide by 1' deep), slope, and materials used.
Golder observed excavation of the Phase IVc anchor trench for proper location, dimension (2' wide by
3' deep) and maintenance prior to geomembrane deployment. Anchor trench excavation met or
exceeded the requirements of the specification.
Golder observed placement, compaction, and moisture conditioning of SLF in the Phase IVc OSA for
subgrade preparation, thickness, compaction, moisture-content, and materials used. The Golder CQA
Earthworks Monitor performed seventeen nuclear moisture-density tests (SLNc-172 through SLNc-
188) and performed seven nucleaz moisture-density retests on SLF that required reworking (SLNc-
1676, SLNc-167c, SLNc-171 a, SLNc-171b, SLNc-172a, SLNc-175x, and SLNc-179a). Field test
results are presented in Attachment B.
Phase Nc l4 AUgutt B-AUg¢[142004 Golder Associates inc.
