Sorenson
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Water Spray Land Application Design, Gold Hill Mill
File No. M-94-117
Dear Mr. Sorenson:
Qt=f`1=1~/FD
APR ~ z ~sss
piviaion of Minorplo d (#Otlltlyy
We have reviewed the water pumping system at the Gold Hill Mill and propose the following
program to establish a land application of Hazel A water on the azea above the tailings pond.
Water currently is pumped from the Hazel A and is pumped into two process water tanks at the
west end of the mill building. When the tanks ere full, water overflows the tanks and is piped to
the tailings pond by gravity flow through a 3-inch line. Water for mill makeup water is pumped
from the two tanks (approximately 16,000 gallons each) to various mill circuits as fresh water
makeup.
We plan to replumb the water coming from the tanks after the process water pump so that the
water will be pumped through a 2-inch line to three parallel distribution lines that will contain
impulse type sprinklers with a throw radius of approximately 20 to 25 feet. The sprinklers will
be placed every 40-feet along the three lines. The lines will be spaced approximately 30 feet
apart. The head spacing will allow some overlapping coverage. Water flow will be from 60 to 75
gallons per minute. Estimated pumped flow from the Hazel A is 50 to 75 gallons per minute.
Water from the tanks can also be discharged into the tailings pond through the main 2-inch
lateral. The process tanks will be used as surge tanks to even flow to the land application and
provide storage for Hazel A water when the ground is saturated. If the tanks aze full, water can
still overflow to the tailings pond as it does now.
If there is any other info[mation that you need, please call.
Sincerely,
~~,
Richard Fox
