4 Enclosure 3. The following statements by Mr. Howard Klemme of the Boulder County Planning Commission are quoted to provide the Plined Land Reclamation Board with a knowledgeable third party ' s evaluation of the Flatiron' s mining site which is adjacent to the Deepe Farm property. In his first sentence , "these things" refers to the stockpiles on the site . "I must say, my visit at that site made me realize that these things can indeed be extremely unattractive , and the failure of Flatiron' s to have done a better job, I don' t care whether they are meeting the minimum standards of the State , ah, they are not meeting what is acceptable standards , and they know what those acceptable standards are in the County, and indeed their failure to have done a better job on the Turnpike Pit is what causes me to be , frankly, rather hesitant about their willingness to really do this job right . And it may not , I 'm not sure of the legalities of this bill , but I don' t think it ' s inappropriate for us to tell them to clean up what you haven' t done right over here before you start on this one . I would read in the exception, though, that says that except as such materials are brought from the Deepe Pit site to properly reclaim, revegetate the Turnpike Pit . " Following the above statements , the Planning Commission, without opposition, adopted this motion: "Reclamation and revegetation of the existing Turnpike Pit site must be completed before any areas are disturbed on the Deepe Pit site , except that overburden materials from the Deepe Farm 11it may be used to properly reclaim and revegetate the Turnpike Pit . " Subsequently the County Commissioners modified this by adding the words , " , and accept that stockpiles may be left until sold as long as the stockpiles are flattened and lowered for safety purposes . "
