Box 520
Somerset, CO 81934
Re: Public Notice
Dear Mr. Gallob:
1'C ; I:: i
~i ~~-,
MAY 121994
C/ ~ii,rn.
-~s 5
~~~~:.
,~,,
The cabin you currently inhabit in the southeast quarter of
Section 10 is located near Somerset's mine workings. The First
North Mains are located approximately 480 feet north and about 350
feet below the cabin. During April and May, 1993, the First North
Mains were developed north of the cabin.
Somerset's Division of Minerals and Geology ("DMG") permit uses a
25 angle of draw to calculate the lateral extent of subsidence.
By applying the 25 angle of draw to the 350 feet of overburden, it
can be determined that the surface could be affected 163 feet south
of the First North Mains in the vicinity of the cabin. If
subsidence did occur as projected, a buffer of 317 feet (480 - 163)
would exist between the maximum projected lateral extent of
subsidence and the cabin. Somerset does not intend to take any
measures to prevent susidence in the First North Mains in the
vicinity of the cabin.
The DMG does have rules that require certain notice be given to
owners of property and residents within the area above the
underground workings and adjacent areas. Somerset does not believe
regulatory notice is necessary because the cabin is outside of the
area of projected subsidence. However, this notice is given in
case some overzealous regulator decides at some future date that
notice was required.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
i - ~ '_ _ -
Walter L.
