BOx 469 <br />FORT COL LIN6, CO 60522 <br />ur`w ~" ~~~~~~ <br />.!~JN ?, ~ 1985 <br />State of Colorado <br />Department of Natural Resources <br />Mined Land Reclamation Division <br />423 Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />ATTN: Brian Munson <br />RE: The Rockcastle Company <br />Grassy Gap No. 1 Coal Mine <br />File No. C-039-81 <br />Dear Brian: <br />P.71Td~p LAND <br />RECLAMATIpy D11/ISIQ~~ <br />Over the last few weeks and during the course of recent mine <br />inspections by your reclamation specialists, it has become evident <br />that economic conditions in the coal industry are such that the <br />present operation of Grass Gap No. 1 Coal Mine needs to be sus- <br />pended. <br />Although I will soon be leaving my office for an extended <br />personal vacation, I thought it important to see that the Division <br />was advised by a representative of the permittee of the fact of <br />suspension of mining operations. <br />We do not know how long that suspension will continue since <br />economic conditions defy prognostication. <br />In any event, your reclamation specialists have recently <br />inspected the mine and are certainly fully aware of the status of <br />the mine itself and its full compliance with the provisions of the <br />Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act and the permit. <br />During this temporary period of suspension, the permittee <br />will continue to comply with all relevant portions of the Act and <br />the permit. Arrangements have been made by Robert Sherman, our <br />mine superintendent, to see that personnel are available to do all <br />
