1
' 1998. The results of the study are sutttmarized below. A detailed description of the study and
' analyses are presented in Appendix A.
The approved reclamation success standards, as specified by the CDMG during permitting, for
' the Colorado Coal Mine #1 are as follows:
Cover -Vegetation cover will be restored on the disturbed areas to 90 percent of the vegetation
' reference area.
Production -Vegetation production will be restored on the disturbed areas to 90 percent of the
' vegetation reference area.
Species Diversity -Establish two perennial cool season grasses and two.perennial forbs with at
' least 3% but less than 40% relative cover, and any combination of perennial warm-season grasses
with at least 6% relative cover and no upper limit
' Cover values on the reclaimed area exceeded the 90 percent standard required in comparison to
the reference area.
' Vegetative production on the reclaimed area are determined to exceed the production values for
the reference area, thereby satisfying the success standard specified in the permit.
' Analysis of the species diversity standard shows the reclaimed area to satisfy all values established
in the permit with the exception of one. The permit calls for establishment of two perennial forbs
' having a relative vegetative cover of at least 3 percent. The only perennial forb sampled in the
reclaimed area that satisfies this requirement is alfalfa. This is consistent with the reference area
where only one perennial forb having a relative cover of 3 percent was sampled.
' Survey results indicate a permanent, self-sustaining stand of vegetation established on the
reclaimed area. Analysis of revegetation standards indicates a favorable recommendation for year
' number one of the Phase III bond release for CCM#1.

1

1
BoM057 1999-053.wpd\February 26. 1999 5
1
