CNAPTERTHREE Emnronmem~u Consequences <br />3.2 SOILS <br />3.2.1 Direct and Indirect Impacts <br />Piceance Site <br />Impacts would be the same as those described for the Proposed Action, except for the following. <br />The Yellow Creek Jeep Trail would be widened, instead of realigned. Disturt~ance of soils for <br />road widening would affect about 3.7 acres, compared with 5.2 acres from relocation of the road <br />under the Proposed Action. A stormwater retention pond would also be added to the Piceance <br />Site. The pond would have 1 acre of pond surface, would occupy 1.6 acres i~tcluding berms and <br />would require an additiona10.5 acres of short-term construction-phase disturbance. The net <br />change from the Yellow Creek Jeep Trail and stormwater retention pond wotdd be an increase of <br />0.1 acre of long-term disturbance and 0.5 acre of short-term disturbance, botl~ on fragile soils. <br />A more detailed Reclamation Plan has been prepazed and is included in AppE;ndix H of this Final <br />EIS. It includes descriptions of proposed methods for erosion control (best management <br />practices), surface water diversion and control, soil salvage and reconstruction, and revegetation. <br />Soils salvaged during initial disturbance would either be immediately replaccd on lands requiring <br />permanent reclamation or stockpiled for future use. Several seed mixtures are included, <br />including a critical azea stabilization seed mixture for quick establishment of temporary cover, an <br />interim revegetation seed mixture, and four permanent revegetation seed mixtures. • <br />Pipeline Corridor <br />Impacts would be similaz to those assessed for the Proposed Action. <br />The proposed pipeline corridor has been modified in a number of azeas to improve <br />constructability. The revised route generally follows the original route, and i,t would cross the <br />same soil types and affect approximately the same acreages of the various soil types. <br />The Pipeline Plan of Development (Section 3.4 and Attachment 6 of the plaza, Appendix F of this <br />Final EIS) includes more detail regazding reclamation and erosion control than was provided in <br />the Draft EIS. Topsoil would be removed from the entire 125-foot width of the construction <br />ROW. Erosion control methods would include channel stabilization, diversion structures, water <br />diversions, and mulch. Mulch would be applied to all azeas of highly erodible soils and in azeas <br />with slopes greater than 15 percent. Excess rock excavated from Ute trench would be removed <br />for use as riprap at streazn or washout crossings, buried on the ROW, or used as barricades to <br />deter use of the ROW as a road. Erosion control fabrics would be applied on asite-specific basis <br />to control soil erosion. <br />Parachute Site <br />Impacts would be the same as those described for the Proposed Action. The Reclamation Plan <br />provides additional details about erosion control and reclamation procedures that would be • <br />applied at the Pazachute Site. <br />3-2 Soils <br />
