1

I

1

GOSNEY & SONS, INC. ENTRANCE ANALYSIS
The entrance to the gravel pit batch plant site is at the intersection of CR 521
and the site driveway. There are no serious problems indicated with this
access to the site relative to capacity and level-of-service at the present time.
There is, however, some concern relative to the safe operation of the main
entrance to the site at CR 521. Observations indicate that the through traffic
on CR 521 travels at relatively high speeds iii the vicinity of the site. This
situation is present because of a variety of factors one of which is that the
posted speed limit is 55 mph. The State Highway Access Code indicates that
a right turn deceleration speed change lane and a right turn acceleration speed
1
1

J
change land would be required if this were a State Highway. In view of the
heavy trucking operation involved, and the current relatively high accident
rate on this road (0.72 accidents per mile per year), a right turn deceleration
speed change lane and a right turn acceleration speed change land should be
considered. Figure 5 shows a possible geometric configuration for the driveway
intersection at CR 521. This figure indicates the geometry for both 45 mph
and 55 mph speed limits on CR 521. It may be desirable to reduce the posted
speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph in the vicinity of the site. This would
improve the safety of CR 521 as well as improve the egress left turning
movement performance.
19
